About Us

Worship

Worship is the right attitude and expression of reverence and adoration. For Believers, true worship, worship of the Triune God, is based on a right understanding of God's nature and a right valuing of His worth. Worship is often misidentified by the singing portion of the church service. At Ascension Baptist, we corporately worship through the Singing the Word, Praying the Word, Reading the Word, Preaching the Word, and Seeing the Word. Our time of corporate worship is all about the Word of God.

What to Expect During Corporate Worship

Singing The Word
At Ascension Baptist, our aim in corporate worship is to sing Biblically accurate songs that glorify God. This means that on any given Sunday, you may find us singing songs written several years ago and you may also find us singing songs written hundreds, even thousands of years ago. Our time of singing is blended, not catering to one style or the other. We simply attempt to stay true to the Word.
Praying the Word
Prayer is an important aspect of worship. It was once stated, "Prayer does not change God, but him who prays." Worship in the Bible is seen as an act of surrender (Romans 12:1). Prayer is the agent in which our will aligns to God's will. At Ascension Baptist, we worship through prayer and our prayers reflect the truths of Scripture.
Reading the Word
Paul instructs Timothy to "Give attention to the public reading of Scripture" (1 Timothy 4:13). We believe the Bible is all-sufficient for us to know God and live lives that glorify Him. Because of this conviction, we emphasize the reading of God's Word in our corporate Worship.
Preaching the Word
The highlight of Worship at Ascension Baptist is the preaching of God's Word. The preaching of God's Word is central to the life of the Church. Our thoughts, beliefs, and doctrines are all shaped by the preaching and teaching of God's Word. Paul tells Titus the truths of God and hope in the Gospel are manifested through Paul's preaching (Titus 1:1-3). People are changed through the preaching of God's Word, because of that truth, we are committed to preaching.
Seeing the Word
Christ gives the Church two ordinances; Baptism and the Lord's Supper. Both of the ordinances show unbelievers a picture of the Gospel and the hope believers have in Jesus Christ.

The Church

Ascension Baptist is a New Testament church of the Lord Jesus Christ and is an autonomous local congregation of baptized believers, associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel; observing the two ordinances of Christ, governed by His laws, exercising the gifts, rights, and privileges invested in them by His Word, and seeking to extend the gospel to the ends of the earth. We operate under the Lordship of Christ through democratic processes. Each member is responsible and accountable to Christ as Lord.

The New Testament speaks also of the church as the Body of Christ which includes all of the redeemed of all the ages, believers from every tribe, and tongue, and people, and nation.
